Music Ministry

Our choirs are open to all who love to sing or play bells, and all will be warmly welcomed. Our choirs are a place where, through the discernment of individual gifts and the call to offer time and talents to our beloved church, you can become an active worship participant to sing and ring spiritual depth and beauty into our life as a worshipping family.
Or join us on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. for An Introduction to Vocal Technique class taught by our soprano Gabrielle Tinto for in our bell choir under the direction of Anthony Cabrera. No prior experience is necessary for the voice class. Direct all enthusiasm to Ron Morgan at ronm@ucc-cgcc.org.
On Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 6:00 p.m., the CGCC Chancel Choir will join forces with the Choir of Unity on the Bay, INSIGNIA (the vocal ensemble of the Miami Gay Men’s Chorus), and The Civic Chorale of Greater Miami to present the First Annual MGMC South Florida Choral Festival. The festival will showcase each participating choir in individual performances and will culminate with a performance of the combined choirs, which will be under the direction of our very own Anthony Cabrera and which will feature our beloved Charmyn Kirton as soloist.
Plan now to support this new addition to the musical life of South Florida, to hear a wide variety of music from a diverse slate of choirs, and to support the efforts of our own choir and singers from CGCC. The concert will take place at Unity on the Bay, at 411 NE 21st Street, Miami, Florida. Tickets are available for $20.00, and may be purchased on line at miamigaychorus.org or can be purchased at the door.

Singers in the choirs of Christ’s Church come in all ages and sizes. Throughout the church year, our children’s choirs rehearse weekly to make regular contributions to Sunday worship and to prepare for the Christmas Eve Children’s Service and the Spring Children’s Choirs Musical. We are grateful for the energy and youthful zest our young singers bring to our worship life!

Dr. Ron Morgan received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music, and Master of Music and Ph.D degrees in Music Education from Northwestern University. He enjoyed a career as the director of choirs and guidance counselor at Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Ron has sung with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, and was a performing member of the Robert Shaw Choral Institute at Carnegie Hall. Ron served as the Director of Music Ministries at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a featured organist in the United Church of Christ’s recording project to record all of the hymns in The New Century Hymnal on CDs for use by UCC congregations across the country.
Dave Neimiller comes to us from Elyria, Ohio, where for 11 years he was the Director of Music and the Business & Facilities Manger at First Congregational UCC, one of our largest UCC congregations. Raised in Pennsylvania, Dave earned a degree in accounting from Central Pennsylvania Business College while studying organ at the University of Indiana in Pennsylvania and with Marilyn Mason at the University of Michigan.
While at First Church, Dave played services at the National Offices of the United Church of Christ and led workshops on creating music ministry programs with a limited budget and on the creative use of piano and organ in worship. Dave has served as a consultant for the Allen Organ Compnay, the company that built the organs in our sanctuary, training organists in local churches to play their newly-installed instruments. In the spring of 2008, Dave was one of the organists who recorded the hymns of The New Century Hymnal on CDs for use by UCC congregations across the country who may not have access to pianos or organs. Dave’s CGCC responsibilities include playing for all worship services, weddings, and special services, and assisting in the church office three days a week.
